PHP stands for a recursive acronym, PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. PHP is a another FOS server-side scripting language, like ASP, SSI, JSP, Ruby, Python executed by the server, before delivering to the client or visitor of a PHP page on a browser. It is one of the widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML and have support for many databases like MySQL, Informix, Oracle, Sybase, Solid, PostgreSQL, Generic ODBC, etc.
A php file generally have extension of php, php3, php4, php5 and/or php6.
A simple PHP-Script will look like this:

More details of the system's PHP can be obtained from the following code. Put the code in your public_html directory and name the file phpinfo.php and browse the file like http://yourdomain.com/phpinfo.php
