What is the difference between a parked domain and an add-on domain?

Parked domain are different domains pointing to same website hosted in a same account.

Addon domains are different domains pointing to each different and separate website hosted in the same account.

If this is not clear for you, let us explain with examples,

Parked domain

You have two domains your_first_biz.com and your_first_biz.net.
your_first_biz.com is the primary domain of your website (and your hosting account) and you want to add your_domain_name.net.
You want them both to go to the same place. In other words, when someone types either your_first_biz.com or your_first_biz.net they will need to go to the same page(s) on your website.
We say, your_first_biz.net is parked over your_first_biz.com

Addon Domain

You have two domains your_first_biz.com and your_second_biz.com
You want the two domains to be totally separate and independent websites, but needs to manage under one hosting account.
When you create an add on domain, it makes a folder in your public_html folder and you upload the site content into that folder. So essentially you are running 2 separate sites, separate content, off one account. i.e if you are creating the addon domain,your_second_biz.com in cPanel, it will create a folder your_second_biz under the public_html. It will automatically create a subdomain, your_second_biz.your_first_biz.com
